Stirling Relationship Counselling Retreats

Our couples retreat process offers a highly intensive form of relationship counselling designed to assist couples to rapidly improve communication and build connection in their relationship. Utilising the Gottman Couples Therapy Method, this process assists couples to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their partner and their relationship.

How are Mornington Peninsula Couples Therapy Retreats Structured?

Our Couples Retreats are facilitated by Certified Gottman Couples Therapist and Board Registered Clinical Psychologist Dr. Katie Stirling. During your 3 day couples retreat Katie works exclusively with you using an intensive couples retreat format sometimes referred to as Marathon Therapy. Katie's approach to couples therapy is unique, she  has spent years working with exlcusively with couples  in retreat format. 

We have created a short video to help you understand the Gottman Relationship Counselling Retreat process. 



Prior to your Mornington Peninsula couples therapy retreat you will complete a range of questionnaires designed to develop a complete understanding of you as individuals and your relationship.

This includes: 

  • A written questionnaire focussed on you as an individual and your unique perspective in your relationship.
  • A written questionnaire about your relationship  strengths, history, and patterns of connection and communication.
  • The evidence- based Gottman Connect Questionnaire that utilises a range of psychometric assessments to evaluate a your relationship across a range of areas. 

Treatment Planning

Prior to arriving at your Mornington Peninsula retreat, your couples therapist Dr Katie Stirling dedicates time to review all of your completed information and develop a comprehensive treatment plan. 

The information provided in your assessment offers an opportunity for Katie to develop a thorough understanding of you as individuals and your individual perspectives. As well as a complete understanding of your relationship and your patterns of interaction.

Based on this thorough understanding, Katie will develop a comprehensive treatment plan for your Mornington Peninsula retreat that is tailored to your specific relationship goals and needs. 

Couples Retreat

Your couples therapy retreat begins with a feedback session where Katie will present an overview of her understanding of the strengths of your relationship and the areas you will work on strengthening over the course of the couples retreat. Katie will present a framework for your relationship retreat and together you can tweak this to ensure that it meets your relationship goals and needs.

Over 3 days you will complete a further 7 couples therapy sessions. 

Your Mornington Peninsula couples therapy retreat will end by reflecting on what you've learnt and an outline of tools and strategies for maintaining these changes as you return to every day life.

Our Couples Retreat includes 8 relationship counselling sessions, and allows clients the freedom to plan their own stays and activities to cater to their budget and preferences.

Our couples retreat psychologist Dr Katie Stirling will meet you at your onsite retreat accommodation on the Mornington Peninsula.
